We are very happy to announce that the 5 Senses Garden’s grand opening is set for Friday the 15th of February 2019. The opening will be a festive occasion with open to the entire community. The City of Canada Bay will provide the funding to help make the day something special for everyone.
The Gardening Assistance (GA) team are travelling to the Southern Cross University on the Gold Coast at the end of October for the Australian Therapeutic Landscapes Conference.
The conference theme this year is:
“Going Public: encouraging therapeutic horticulture in public spaces”.
The theme could have been picked just for our 5 Senses Garden! With the garden going public early next year, Roman, Natalie & Stuart will be keen to learn as much as possible about using gardens to heal, educate and enjoy.
Click on the ‘Workshops & Events’ link below for more information about the conference.
The Council's contractor commenced construction works on Monday the 10th of September 2018. We will be taking more progress pictures of the site development, so stay tuned.
We have a local hero in our midst. Well done Roman for being one of three successful 2018 Westfield Burwood Local Heroes. Roman was nominated for promoting social wellbeing and harmony in the community. Inner West Neighbour Aid has been awarded a $10,000 grant, which will go towards funding workshops and programs run from the 5 Senses Garden.
We are currently out in the community, meeting and consulting with future users of the garden and service providers who will benefit from this green community space. The team is also exploring potential sponsorship opportunities with like-minded partners.
The Focus Group was a great success, with 47 attendees plus staff and volunteers. The group was able to come up with many ideas to help the garden. Many of our clients put forward amazing garden activity ideas such as; art projects, music performances, cooking demonstrations, as well as how to better tailor activities in the garden for sight and hearing challanged and less mobile clients.
A significant milestone for the 5 Senses Garden has been achieved. We are all excited to share the news that the final design has been completed!
The construction phase is set to commence at the beginning of September 2018.
The 5 Senses Garden has received $20,000 as part of the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Programme. These funds will be used for the outdoor cooking and dinning facilities at the garden. Specifically, the Vegepods, the outdoor kitchen (sink, cook-top and benches) and the large picnic table.
